Epic Games has introduced a persistent no-build battle royale mode to Fortnite, known as ‘Zero Build,’ which will remain available beyond Chapter 3 Season 2. Initially introduced last week alongside the Doctor Strange skin as part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming Sam Raimi film, this mode eliminates the iconic building mechanic in Fortnite, emphasizing players’ reliance on aiming skills for victory.
Located on the Discover page, accessible by clicking the ‘CHANGE’ button in the lobby, Zero Build offers solo, duo, and squads playlists. With building mechanics removed, all players are equipped with an Overshield, providing an additional layer of protection separate from the familiar blue shield and green health bar. The Overshield replenishes automatically when depleted.
Additional features in the Season 3 Chapter 2 update include increased sprinting speeds, the ability to climb ledges using bare hands (parkour), and the option to shoulder bash doors instead of using the interact button to open them.
Players can contribute collected Gold Bars in-game to fund the Battle Bus, now equipped with a rugged cow catcher for enhanced ramming power. Fully funded buses can be found in specific Resistance-occupied areas and can be driven around.
Epic Games also released a new auburn-haired Mary Jane skin this week, completing the classic Sam Raimi Spider-Man collection. The set includes a Web Shredder Pickaxe resembling a guitar that can be worn on the back during gameplay.
The Green Goblin skin set has made a return for purchase in the shop using V-Bucks (in-game currency). All purchases from the shop contribute to funding humanitarian relief for victims of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
