Respawn Entertainment has officially announced the arrival of next-gen versions for its futuristic battle royale game, Apex Legends, on consoles. The upcoming update, named the ‘Warriors Collection’ event, is set to launch tomorrow, introducing various enhancements, notably native 4K output for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

As part of the patch, players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will experience improved performance, enjoying full 60 Hz gameplay with HDR enabled, resulting in brighter highlights. Additionally, users on PS5 and Xbox Series X will benefit from native 4K output, higher resolution shadow maps, and enhanced LOD (level of detail) distances, providing better visual clarity for distant enemies and objects. Unfortunately, these three upgrades will not be available for the Series S console.

For PS5 users, the transition to the new version is straightforward. They can navigate to the Game hub, press the ‘Options’ button, choose ‘Select Version,’ and download the new PS5 version. Afterward, they can delete the existing PlayStation 4 version while retaining all saves, unlocks, and progression. Xbox players, on the other hand, can take advantage of the Smart Delivery feature, automatically syncing and downloading the optimal version of the game.

In addition to the technical upgrades, Respawn Entertainment has unveiled a limited-time 9v9 mode called Control. This mode allows players to form squads, select loadouts, and engage in battles for control over various locations on the maps Olympus, Storm Point, and Kings Canyon.

In a recent Reddit leak, details emerged about nine new characters and maps anticipated to join Apex Legends in the next two years. Among them is a defense-oriented champion named Newcastle, skilled in rescuing downed teammates and establishing shielded areas on the battlefield for healing. Although the remaining eight characters were not fully rendered, some of their abilities were available for testing in the training area. The leak also hinted at unfinished maps, including one called Divided Moon, featuring a monorail system.
